Description
Introduction/Conclusion State your goals for the paper, put the importance of what you re doing in context,
and conclude with thoughts that reinforce the paper s objectives and also summarize and extend your initial
thoughts
Summary Analysis and Discussion of the Literature Consider this the more fully written out version of your
annotated bibliography, in which you re drawing out your sources and discussing what exactly they have to say.
The objective isn t to summarize one after another piece of scholarly work, but to synthesize them into a larger
understanding of the topic. What do they say when put together What is the more complete understanding of
your topic that we can gain from their collective findings You DO NOT have to use every source from your
annotated bibliography and you MAY use sources that you found after that assignment was submitted.
Application of the Literature to the Israeli Palestinian Conflict Your study of relevant literature might tell you
what it says about a specific political science topic (terrorism or peace negotiations, for example), but it doesn t
necessarily tell you exactly what it says about the Israeli Palestinian Conflict. So, you re called on to start filling
that void by applying the literature you ve researched to this conflict. In your application, consider a few things:
(1) what elements of the conflict does it address (2) what does it tell us about the conflict (3) what questions
remain unanswered and (4) what further research should be done to better understand how this conflict fits into
the literature you ve researched.
Objective Tone Your paper is focused on the political science of this particular area, so please remember to
approach this from an objective and scientific perspective. Your goal is to apply a broader study of political
science literature to the conflict we re studying, not to assess the relative good, bad, guilt, or innocence of its
participants.
