Compare and Contrast Essay
Rubric and Assignment for Formal Drama Paper
Only sources needed are the book and movie as stated in the directions

The drama assignment is two to three page comparison/contrast paper between the written version of A Doll’s House and the 1973 or 1974 movie version with Anthony Hopkins (copies are probably on YouTube, available on Amazon Prime, in your local library, or do a web search). Your final paper should compare and contrast these two versions of the same play by looking at how the elements of drama translate from the written to a produced, movie version. Questions to help you complete this two-page paper are available under Week 6, “Approaching the Drama Paper.” The rubric for the paper is as follows:

1. A strong thesis statement/opening paragraph

2. Appropriate use/documentation of quotations and citations

3. A strong analysis of appropriate elements of literature using the appropriate language to discuss whatever elements are chosen

4. Clear and grammatically correct sentences

5. Clear and well-selected evidence including the minimum amount of three direct quotations

6. Clear comparisons/contrasts with references to pieces of the play and film (not a discussion of the author and/or time period) and a clear understanding of the play versus the film

7. Clear organization and crafting of the body of the paper

8. Clear analysis, using materials from the section on drama-not simply a summary of background on the poem or its author

9. Clearly stated conclusion paragraph that appropriately ties the content of the paper together without introducing new ideas

10 Other-this section reflects points for or against you in categories not stated above. For example, if grammar problems are pervasive and interfere with meaning then you may receive points off in both 4 and 10.
