Asper School of Business and of our degrees that everyone associated with our<br \/>\nfaculty behave with the highest academic integrity. As the faculty that helps create business and government leaders, we<br \/>\nhave a special obligation to ensure that our ethical standards are beyond reproach. Any dishonesty in our academic<br \/>\ntransactions violates this trust. The University of Manitoba General Calendar addresses the issue of academic<br \/>\ndishonesty under the heading “Plagiarism and Cheating”. Specifically, acts of academic dishonesty include, but are not<br \/>\nlimited to:<br \/>\n– using the exact words of a published or unpublished author without quotation marks and without referencing the<br \/>\nsource of these words<br \/>\n– duplicating a table, graph or diagram, in whole or in part, without referencing the source<br \/>\n– paraphrasing the conceptual framework, research design, interpretation, or any other ideas of another person,<br \/>\nwhether written or verbal (e.g., personal communications, ideas from a verbal presentation) without referencing the<br \/>\nsource<br \/>\n– copying the answers of another student in any test, examination, or take-home assignment<br \/>\n– providing answers to another student in any test, examination, or take-home assignment<br \/>\n– taking any unauthorized materials into an examination or term test (crib notes)<br \/>\n– impersonating another student or allowing another person to impersonate oneself for the purpose of submitting<br \/>\nacademic work or writing any test or examination<br \/>\n– stealing or mutilating library materials<br \/>\n– accessing tests prior to the time and date of the sitting<br \/>\n– changing name or answer(s) on a test after that test has been graded and returned<br \/>\n– submitting the same paper or portions thereof for more than one assignment, without discussions with the instructors<br \/>\ninvolved.<br \/>\nGroup Projects and Group Work<br \/>\nMany courses in the I.H. Asper School of Business require group projects. Students should be aware that group projects<br \/>\nare subject to the same rules regarding academic dishonesty. Because of the unique nature of group projects, all group<br \/>\nmembers should exercise special care to insure that the group project does not violate the policy on Academic Integrity.<br \/>\nShould a violation occur, group members are jointly accountable unless the violation can be attributed to a specific<br \/>\nindividual(s).<br \/>\nSome courses, while not requiring group projects, encourage students to work together in groups (or at least do not<br \/>\nprohibit it) before submitting individual assignments. Students are encouraged to discuss this issue as it relates to<br \/>\nacademic integrity with their instructor to avoid violating this policy.<br \/>\nIn the I.H. Asper School of Business all suspected cases of academic dishonesty are passed to the Dean’s office in order<br \/>\nto ensure consistency of treatment.<br \/>\n7<br \/>\n2014 Summer Session Undergraduate Subject Pool Program<br \/>\nOverview<br \/>\nAll students in Fundamentals of Marketing (MKT 2210) have the opportunity to participate in two research<br \/>\nstudies during the Summer term for credit. These research studies may involve participating in marketing<br \/>\nexperiments, completing a questionnaire, and\/or a computer simulation.<br \/>\nParticipation in all 2 research studies earns you the full 5% component of your course grade.<br \/>\nParticipating in only 1 study will earn you a proportional grade (2.5%). Note that the 5% is part of<br \/>\nthe 100% for the course and is not extra credit. You may participate in each study only once.<br \/>\nBenefits of the Program<br \/>\nThis program is designed to give students a glimpse into how marketing theory is developed by<br \/>\nparticipating in marketing research studies. Fundamentals of Marketing (MKT 2210) is an introduction to<br \/>\nthe knowledge base of marketing generated in part by such studies conducted in universities and businesses<br \/>\naround the world. This program will help students understand how such research is conducted here in the<br \/>\nAsper School of Business.<br \/>\nThrough participation in academic research studies, students also increase the value of their degrees.<br \/>\nReputations of universities are based to a large extent on the quality of the research conducted by their<br \/>\nfaculty. By participating in these studies, you are helping your professors publish in scholarly journals,<br \/>\nconsequently improving the reputation of the university from which you earned your degree.<br \/>\nProcedure<br \/>\nYou will be notified via email and in class prior to each study so that you may sign up to participate (you<br \/>\nwill have to sign up separately for each of the three studies). Each study will last a maximum of an hour and<br \/>\nmultiple sessions will be offered for each of these. The sign-ups will take place online via the following<br \/>\nlink: http:\/\/manitoba.subjectpoolonline.com\/Manitoba\/<br \/>\nFor each study, please sign-up for a session in which you will participate. It is your responsibility to keep<br \/>\ntrack of when sign-up sheets are being posted, in case you miss the announcement.<br \/>\nThe Behavioural Research Committee keeps track of your participation and will notify your instructor of<br \/>\nyour participation at the end of the term.<br \/>\nAt the end of the term, you will be debriefed, i.e., you will be informed as to what was being studied in each<br \/>\nstudy. This debriefing will allow you to see how marketing theory is developed through academic research.<br \/>\nIf you find yourself unable or are unwilling to participate in a particular study, please inform your<br \/>\ninstructor. The Behavioral Research Committee will assign a research paper, to be graded as pass\/fail, as an<br \/>\nalternative way to earn experimental participation credit. You will need to choose this option prior to the<br \/>\ncompletion of the study in which you will not participate. This choice cannot be made retroactively if you<br \/>\nmiss a study. There will be no makeup studies.<br \/>\n8<br \/>\nAlternative Assignment for MKT 2210<br \/>\nIn the case of a student not wishing to participate in a research study or being unable to attend the scheduled<br \/>\nsessions, the following option is offered as an alternative assignment. This alternative assignment is<br \/>\ndesigned to take approximately one hour of time, the same time that would be spent if you were<br \/>\nparticipating in the research program.<br \/>\nStudents are to find one research article in any of the following journals published in the last 2 years:<br \/>\nJournal of Consumer Research<br \/>\nJournal of Consumer Psychology<br \/>\nJournal of Advertising<br \/>\nJournal of Public Policy and Marketing<br \/>\nStudents will be required to read the article and submit a short one page summary of the main findings to<br \/>\nmktg_research@umanitoba.ca. Credit will be given to the student as if they participated in the research<br \/>\nstudy.<br \/>\nStudents will be required to read the article and submit a short one page summary of the main findings to<br \/>\nmktg_research@umanitoba.ca. This report is due before the end of the study session in which it is<br \/>\ncounting. For example, if it is used for Study 1, this summary is due before study 1 sessions have<br \/>\ncompleted. Credit will be given to the student as if they participated in the research study.<br \/>\nAny questions about the assignment or suggestions for articles should be directed to<br \/>\n9<br \/>\nAACSB Assurance of Learning Goals and Objectives.<br \/>\nThe Asper School of Business is proudly accredited by AACSB. Accreditation<br \/>\nrequires a process of continuous improvement of the School and our students. Part of<br \/>\n\u201cstudent improvement\u201d is ensuring that students graduate with the knowledge and<br \/>\nskills they need to succeed in their careers. To do so, the Asper School has set the<br \/>\nlearning goals and objectives listed below for the Undergraduate Program. The<br \/>\nchecked goal(s) and objective(s) will be addressed in this course and done so by means<br \/>\nof the items listed next to the checkmark.<br \/>\nGoals and Objective in the Undergraduate Program<br \/>\nGoals and<br \/>\nObjectives<br \/>\nAddressed<br \/>\nin this<br \/>\nCourse<br \/>\nCourse Item(s)<br \/>\nRelevant to<br \/>\nthese Goals<br \/>\nand Objectives<br \/>\n1 QuantitativeReasoning<br \/>\nA.
