\tThis was a video clip about the unusual platonic relationship between an elephant (Tarra) and a dog (Bella) housed at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. It described their typical activities, i.e., that they eat, drink, sleep, and play together. When Bella suffered a spinal cord injury, despite having 2700 acres to roam, Tarra stood vigil in the corner by the office where Bella was being treated. After three weeks, the caretaker brought Bella out to see Tarra, and Bella wagged her tail for the first time since the injury occurred. She recovered fully, and now they are closer than ever. Their relationship was said to be one of mutual trust, with no fear, secrets, or prejudices. <\/p>\n
\tHSCI 310 lecture and text address components of intimacy and relationships as well as pairings that may be unseemly to the general public, e.g., bisexual, gay, interracial, intersex, lesbian, transgender, etc. Just because a relationship is atypical or unappealing to someone else does not minimize its importance and meaning to the individuals involved. This report reinforces the concept of diversity in nature. It is consistent with reports re: intelligence and emotions, e.g., grieving, of elephants. <\/p>\n
\tMost people would probably just see this as a heartwarming story, or perhaps focus on the humanity involved when the dog was injured, i.e., not putting it to sleep right away, but allowing and supporting its healing and recovery. Sans prompting, they may not make the connection with diversity.<\/p>\n
\tMy overall response is positive and affirming. The comparison to human relationships and interaction probably comes from having considered different aspects of intimacy and making a deliberate connection with the Health and Human Sexuality course.<\/p>\n

\tRiverside, CA women were being warned about a man who, on at least two occasions, ran his sport-utility vehicle into their cars. When the women got out of their own cars to investigate the damage, he sexually assaulted them. Fortunately, in both instances, the women were able to fight the man off. The perpetrator was described as an African-American male between 5 7 and 5 10 tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He had a distinctive haircut with three lines and a partial star shaved onto the back of his head.<\/p>\n
\tIt is generally assumed that news reported on network television is as accurate as can be determined by the reporters and editors of the program. HSCI 310 lecture material indicates that rape occurs every 6-7 minutes in the United States. Attempted rape and other forms of sexually related violence are probably not included in that statistic.<\/p>\n
\tThis piece reinforces the necessity of being aware of potential danger at all times. The premeditated, calculated nature of these crimes indicates that the perpetrator is aware of his actions and mentally astute enough to select potential victims among traffic. Since the news story did not include any type of victim profile, it must be assumed that any female driver could be vulnerable. Whether the general public is in tune enough to consider the potential ramifications of these crimes may be questionable, i.e., many people would hear the story, perhaps even comment on it, and then not consider themselves vulnerable.<\/p>\n
\tMy overall response is one of fear and outrage. However, processing and discussing this kind of item might prevent a mindful individual and\/or family member from experiencing such an assault. I made it a point to discuss this with my family in the context of awareness and personal safety.<\/p>\n

\tThis diagram presents an ecologic viewpoint of human sexuality as a construct. It addresses five different aspects of sexuality, i.e., sexual identity, intimacy, sensuality, sexualization, and sexual health and reproduction. Each aspect is broken down into four to ten sub-topics for discussion and future consideration. The diagram provides for sex-related attitudes, values, and feelings to be addressed in individual, family, cultural, identity, religious, legal, professional, institutional, scientific, and political contexts.<\/p>\n
\tThe diagram is attributed to a reputable, national entity, i.e., Planned Parenthood Federation of America. \tAt first glance, the image resembles a mathematical Venn diagram. Non-visual learners or casual observers might miss the point or have difficulty assimilating the various aspects of sexuality it presents. Conversely, students of human sexuality, when required academically or given the opportunity to explore the bases and foundations of sex as an academic discipline, will perceive connections between sexuality and many other aspects of human health.<\/p>\n
\tI like the diagram because it presents a visual representation of the dimension of sexuality from an ecologic perspective.
