8 Week Schedule and Assignments
\nAs you can see from the schedule below, both required textbooks listed are essential for your success in this course. Each week you should read the listed chapters in the Handbook (HB) before writing the essay. Note that many of the chapters in the Handbook (HB) have exercises associated with them. I do not grade these; however, you should do as many as necessary to understand the material for that chapter. The chapters in the Longman Reader (LR) give instructions on how to write the various essays required in the course. Also read my instructions regarding each type of essay within the Blackboard course. When there is a conflict between the text\u2019s instructions and my instructions, follow my instructions within the course. I\u2019ll be happy to answer any questions regarding my methods.<\/p>\n
The primary means of learning to write will be in your use of the feedback you receive on your essays. When you receive the graded essays, you should read them carefully with the Comments feature turned on in your word processing software (preferably MS Word). You should also use page 819 of the HB to see where in your book you can find more about the various errors you have made. Go to the chapters associated with the errors and review the material (read the chapter, work the exercises) to ensure you understand the material and will not repeat the error on the next essay. Another good tactic is to type in the name of the error in a web search engine followed by \u201cexercises with answers\u201d to pull up practice exercises that will help you with the material.<\/p>\n
