\nDuring the past few weeks of class, we discussed the various ways in which media messages influence health. In
\naddition to discussing the theoretical connections between health beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors, we have
\ndiscussed different theoretical frameworks that are used to explain and predict the influence of a mediated health
\nmessages on health perceptions and behaviors (e.g., social learning theory, cultivation, etc.). The purpose of this
\npaper is to analyze a mediated health message in terms of its potential impact on society. You are free to choose
\nany mediated health message (e.g., online news article, tweets, video, television show, magazine article, etc.,)
\nbut
\nyou must submit a copy of the message along with your paper. Using two of the theoretical frameworks
\ndiscussed in class, you will predict the effects of the health message you have chosen (e.g., identify and describe
\nthe health beliefs, attitudes, and\/or behaviors that are likely to be impacted by the message). Finally, you will
\noffer some advice for policy makers, audiences, and media sources for how mediated health messages can be
\nimproved.
\nYou should spend part of your paper analyzing the message you have chosen. The idea here is to examine the
\nimportant parts of the content in terms of the potential effects you will be suggesting. Naturally, then, you will
\nwant to tell me about all of the elements that are pertinent to your analysis and why they are important for
\npredicting potential health effects. As part of your analysis, you should note audience characteristics that may be
\nrelevant to your argument. That is, you should explicitly identify the kinds of people you are talking about in
\nyour
\nanalysis. In your conclusions, you should offer some suggestions for changing media content or educating
\naudiences for addressing any negative outcomes you discuss. If you find positive outcomes, you should talk
\nabout how future media messages could reinforce those outcomes.
\nYour final paper should include the following:
\n1) Analysis of the selected mediated health message, including a description of the goal(s) of the message
\nand the characteristics of the target audience to whom it is targeted
\n2) Application of one theoretical framework to the mediated health message and predictions about the
\neffects of the message on the target audience based on the theory
