Mutilate your assignment so you teacher can\u2019t tell you didn\u2019t actually do the work.<\/b> Turn in the illegible or destroyed assignment, so that you can show your \u201cproof\u201d of your excuse. <\/p>\n

  • Crumple and tear a paper assignment. Then you can tell the teacher that it flew out the window and got run over or trampled on.<\/li>\n
  • Smear dirt and water on your assignment and claim it fell in a puddle.<\/li>\n

        Claim to be sick.<\/b> Know that in many cases, you\u2019ll need a written excuse from a doctor or clinic<\/i> to prove to your teacher that you had to seek medical care, and weren\u2019t able to complete your homework.\n<\/p>\n

        • A dangerous move, you can forge a note from a parent explaining why you couldn\u2019t do your homework.<\/li>\n
        • If you decide to forge one, be warned that your teacher might know it\u2019s a fake. If you are caught, you face punishment from both your parents and teacher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Try being honest.<\/b> It\u2019s best to simply tell the truth, and let your teacher know why you weren\u2019t able to complete your homework. A sincere apology can go a long way. <\/p>\n

          • You might say something like \u201cI am really sorry, but I got behind on things and wasn\u2019t able to finish my homework. Could I be excused just this once? I\u2019ll turn it in tomorrow and I won\u2019t be late again.\u201d<\/li>\n
          • Keep things simple and direct, rather than annoying your teacher with long, rambling excuses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Take responsibility for your lack of preparation.<\/b> Admit that you did not complete the work, and accept blame rather than putting it off on someone or something else. <\/p>\n

            • This means saying something like: \u201cI know there\u2019s no excuse, and I accept full responsibility. I should have done my work. I\u2019m sorry that I\u2019m not prepared, and it won\u2019t happen again.\u201d<\/li>\n

              Think of legitimate reasons why you could not do the work.<\/b> You will need something more than \u201cI forgot\u201d to convince your teacher. <\/p>\n

              • Perhaps you are overworked and stressed (this is especially persuasive at exam time).<\/li>\n
              • If circumstances beyond your control, like an illness or death in the family, have prevented you from doing your work, say so.<\/li>\n
              • You can also explain that you didn\u2019t understand the assignment, or struggled with it, or felt rushed, and needed to give it more time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Remember that your teacher is busy, too.<\/b> Try to say in advance that you were not able to do your homework. <\/p>\n

                • Your teacher is more likely to accept the excuse if you don\u2019t spring it on him or her at the last minute.<\/li>\n
                • You might also be able to ask for an extension so that you can turn the homework in later.<\/li>\n
                • Know your teacher\u2019s personality, and how flexible and forgiving he or she is. When you talk to your teacher, look sad, serious, agitated, etc. depending on your excuse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
