Rhetorical Strategy Options:
\ndescription<\/p>\n

You must write an objective descriptive essay.
\nAn objective descriptive essay must focus on the object itself, not on personal reactions to it.
\nThe purpose is to present a precise, literal picture of the subject\u2026a word picture.
\nThe explicitly stated thesis must include the point the writer is making. See planning an objective descriptive essay in the text.
\nUse only third (3rd) person (he, him, his, she, her, hers, it, its, their, theirs).
\nDo not use any first or second person: I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours, you, your, yours<\/p>\n

You must use one of the topics listed below on this assignment sheet.<\/p>\n

You must adhere to several requirements:
\nYour essay must have at least five well-developed paragraphs and have between 950 \u2013 1000 words.<\/p>\n

All rules of formal writing (Formal Writing PowerPoint and video)
\nNo contractions
\nNo slang
\nNo 1st person or 2nd person unless in direct quotes
\nNo addressing the reader directly
\nNo statistics without proper reference
\nNo personal references or examples (unless narrative)<\/p>\n

Composition Requirements
\nYour essay must have at least five well-developed paragraphs.<\/p>\n

It must have between 950 \u2013 1000 words.<\/p>\n

The introduction must have an attention-getting hook and effectively introduce your thesis statement, the LAST sentence of the introduction.<\/p>\n

Each body paragraph must have an easily identifiable topic sentence (generally the first or second sentence of the body paragraph), substantial major and minor details, and transitional words or phrases indicative of the rhetorical strategy you have chosen.<\/p>\n

(Remember; each rhetorical strategy has its own set of common transitional words or phrases.) While you must indicate in your heading which rhetorical strategy you chose, I should have no problem determining the rhetorical strategy as I read.<\/p>\n

You must format your essay using MLA style.
\nBe sure to use one-inch margins all the way around (Word default), true double spacing throughout your entire document, Times New Roman, 12 point font size, and an inserted page number, not header, preceded by your last name and one space.<\/p>\n

The in-text citation must correspond to a full source citation included on a work(s) cited page.<\/p>\n

A Word about Plagiarism
\nEven though this assignment does NOT require a source quotation, if you do decide to incorporate a quotation, you are responsible for correct MLA citation of the material.
\nIf you submit someone else\u2019s words or change only a few words or copy someone else\u2019s ideas without providing a parenthetical citation and quotation marks where applicable and a corresponding work(s) cited page, you will receive \u2013 at the least \u2013 a zero for your plagiarism.<\/p>\n

Objective descriptive strategies:

\nInclude no personal reactions to the object.
\nPresent a precise, literal word picture of the object.
