Possible topics might include freedom, alienation, race, identity, individualism, equality, power, death, love, gender, family, religion, work, money.<\/p>\n<p>Your purpose in writing this paper is to explain how the 2 texts treat their common topics and how and why they differ in their handling of the material (i.e., how historical events and cultural changes affect the texts\u2019 stances on\/presentations of the issue at hand). All material not the student\u2019s own must be cited properly with in-text citations and works cited entries (including the literary texts compared).<\/p>\n<p>Literary texts from which to choose:<\/p>\n<p>Robinson: poems (pages 957-967)<br \/>\nEliot: \u201cThe Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock\u201d (in Bb)<br \/>\nLowell: poems (pages 1055-1059)<br \/>\nStevens: \u201cDisillusionment of Ten O\u2019Clock\u201d (page 1072), \u201cAnecdote of the Jar,\u201d \u201cThe Snow Man\u201d (pages 1079-1080), \u201cThe Emperor of Ice-Cream\u201d (page 1083)<br \/>\nO\u2019Neill: The Hairy Ape (pages 1118-1147)<br \/>\nHughes: poems (pages 1192-1200)<br \/>\nFitzgerald: \u201cBabylon Revisited\u201d (pages 1203-1216)<br \/>\nBrooks: poems (pages 1296\u20131299)<br \/>\nVonnegut: \u201cHarrison Bergeron\u201d (in Bb)<br \/>\nDylan: song lyrics (pages 1330-1338)<br \/>\nO\u2019Connor: \u201cGood Country People\u201d (pages 1370-1383)<\/p>\n<p>In writing your paper, you must use at least 3 outside sources (in addition to the literary works you are comparing). Build this bibliography using Liberty\u2019s Library Research Guide for English focusing particularly on The Cambridge Companions to Literature and Classics, Literature Criticism Online, Literature Resource Center, JSTOR, and the MLA International Bibliography.<br \/>\nYou might also find helpful the videos at American Passages (a companion website for our Norton anthology) in which the units are listed to the left. Select the unit you are interested in and find the video in the middle, bottom of the page.<\/p>\n<p>Format your paper using MLA, APA, or Turabian format.
