For this essay, you will choose a topic or image and discuss how the

expression thereof has changed over time. You will choose 3-5 examples

throughout its iconographic history that you feel best illustrate how the

concept/image has evolved over time. What do the variations on the theme

suggest about the cultures/time periods in which they appear? You will be

including the images in the body of your paper, so the emphasis here is not on

the iconography itself, but rather on the cultural context; that is, while you will

spend some time describing the images, you will spend less time describing the

icon as you will connecting that image to its time and culture.

For example, you might discuss the evolution of the concept of Hell by using the

following images:

A Greek statue depicting Hades

A 15th-Century illustration from Dante’s Inferno

A 19th-Century Church Mural

A PhotoShop™-ed photograph from The Onion

What do these four images tell us about the cultures which produced them:

their priorities, their beliefs, etc.

Another approach is to take a single image, such as the Mona Lisa, and

demonstrated the ways it has been adapted into various cultures, again

connecting each use to the time and culture in which it was produced.

***Paper Length: 6-8 pages (1500-2000 words).***

The Timeline:

ddl Image Analysis to Discussion Board

ddl Image Analysis Due

ddl Annotated Bibliography Rough Draft Due

ddl Annotated Bibliography Peer Review begins

ddl Annotated Bibliography Final Draft

ddl Final Paper Rough Draft Due (Peer Review & Dropbox)

ddl Final Paper Final Draft Due

STEP 2:

Assignment Specifications:NOTE: You MUST have your research question chosenBEFORE you begin this assignment! For this assignment, you will create an annotated bibliography to accompany your research paper. In other words, your topic for this assignment is the same as your research question for the big paper.Length: You must include three sources in addition to your primary source(s).NOTE: The “text” you choose to write a paper about (the photo, advertisement, song, etc.) isyour “primary source,” so you may not annotate it; you need to locate, read, and annotate three “secondary sources.” Assignment Description: An (alphabetized) Annotated Bibliography is very similar to a Works Cited page, but each source is annotated–i.e., you make notes on it. Your first step is to decide which option you would like to write about for the research paper(you might or might not know your specific topic yet; sometimes research helps us identify interesting paper topics). Then, you will use theLibrary Databases and/or the Library Catalogue to locate, read, and annotate three different secondary sources that are related to your chosen story and/or your paper topic. For each of the three sources you find, you will need to write: -An MLA-style citation.See pages 407-462 for more information on MLA formatting. Citations are like mathematical formulas –you just need to plug in the variables, such as the author’s name, the work’s title, and so on. -A summary paragraph. -To write a good summary, you will probably need to write about 5-7 sentences. If you write less, you probably are leaving out important information; if you write much more, you’re probably including too much. The summary should beobjective –focus on whatthe article says, not what you think about it.-A response paragraph. -In the response paragraph, briefly consider the quality of the source’s argument –its strengths and/or weaknesses. You should also consider the source’s relevance to your intended project. What information might you be able to use in your paper? How? The response paragraph is very subjective; it is where you should include your thoughts aboutthe argument.Types of Sources: For any research assignment in this class, you should only use academic, peer-reviewed sources. You will find these types of sources in the Library Databases and Catalogue. You may not use any websiteas a source for this assignment. This includes, but is not limited to: Wikipedia, SparkNotes, CliffsNotes, Shmoop, GradeSaver, About.com, Ask.com, Ask.About.com, and so on. If you find itusing a general Google search, it is probably note the right type of source. NOTE: Just because you include a source in your Annotated Bibliography does not meanthat you must cite it in your paper. Research often includes reading things that you end up not being able to use. Similarly, you mayuse sources (including websites) in your final paper that you do not annotate here.Other Resources: 1.This link from the Purdue OWL discusses annotated bibliographies, and has links to paraphrasing sources and evaluating them: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/owlprint/614/(Note: This link suggests three paragraphs per annotation, but you may combine the evaluation and reflection paragraph into one paragraph.) 2.These links from the Purdue OWL discuss formatting papers according to MLA guidelines: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/

Art & architecture Vincent Van Gogh- Starry Nights I have chosen Vincent Van Gogh-Starry Nights Finalized Research Question: “What makes Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Nights appealing to everyone?” 1.The representation the artist was trying to make 2.Vincent Van Gogh’s technique Read More …

[1

post-428013","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
