\nand\/or turning your paper in ahead of time. (50 points)
\nFor your personal ethics paper, you will complete a 3-5 page essay about a course concept
\npresented during weeks 2-4 of class that is of particular interest and relevancy to you as a future
\nprofessional. You will select a concept presented in the course to explore more deeply and reflect
\ncritically on as a person and professional – your report will include three parts: overview of the
\nprofessional ethical concept you selected, exposition of a personal example and description of
\nfuture professional application and resources related to the concept.
\nBefore beginning your paper, spend some time reflecting on the various concepts and issues
\nraised in the first few weeks of this course (weeks 2-4) as they relate to professional ethics in
\nyour future career. Review your course readings, related discussion questions and start
\nresearching other sources of guidance and inspiration for your personal report. You will select
\none idea or concept from the course.
\nWriting Your Paper \u2013 Content:
\nIntroduction and Concept Overview:
\nSelect one idea from chapters 2-4 of the Purtilo text (only ONE course concept) that you find
\nmost interesting and also applicable to your future career. Select one very specific course
\nconcept that you can comment on thoughtfully and thoroughly within the parameters of this very
\nshort essay format. (e.g., do NOT discuss Purtilo’s 6-step process, that is too much for a this
\nshort section.)
\nx Define and describe the concept or idea in your own words.
\nx Explain why this concept or idea is compelling to you personally.
\nx Explain why this concept or idea is compelling to you professionally.
\nx It is better to limit the scope of your concept or idea and discuss it thoroughly than to take
\non too much and do a poor job explaining it.
\nx Make sure you develop your description and explanation in a clear, logical way.
\nx This section will likely require about 1-1.5 pages to complete.
\nPersonal Example:
\nIn this section, illustrate the concept or idea that you define and explain in the first part \u2013 using a
\nparticular example from your own experiences as an ethical (or unethical) person to illustrate its
\nsignificance.

\nResearch and select two resources that have ethical relevance for your future career that related
\nin some way to the concept or idea you selected in the first part. Describe and cite the resources
\nand explain how these resources will help you on your journey to be an ethical and moral
\nhealth\/fitness professional. (Consider the who, what, when, where, why and how).
\nx Select two resources (e.g., professional associations, guiding principles, theories or
\nframeworks, laws and codes, etc.). Most likely these will be found online and you will
\nresearch them that way. They should be distinct – not two pages of the same website.
\nx Describe the resources \u2013 including who and what it is, where it is located or information
\ncan be found (e.g., cite the URL or any other sources you use along with your
\ndescription).
\nx Why did you select these resources and how, specifically, do they relate to your
\nconcept\/idea and how they can help you in the future.
\nx You will need to be very specific and concrete in your explanation, and it should not be a
\ntrivial statement of importance (e.g. stating that \u201ccodes of conduct are important for
\ntherapists\u201d will not be sufficient \u2026 include how and why and tie back to your course
\nconcept).

\nWriting your Paper – Formatting
\nYour final paper should meet the following formatting requirements:
\nx Your essay should be between 3-5 pages and references at the end (references do not count
\ntoward page limits). The body of writing should include an introduction, content as outlined
\nabove with appropriate transitions between ideas and a conclusion.
\nx Any pages in the body of writing beyond 5 pages (not counting title and references page) will
\nnot be graded. You should practice being clear, complete and succinct in your writing.
\nx Your paper should be double-spaced, 11 or 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. Your
\ndocument must be submitted as a Microsoft Word (.doc or docx) document or another
\neditable format. No .pdf documents will be accepted. I make comments and grade papers
\nusing editing and tracking tools, so I need to be able to open, edit and save your document.
\nx The name of your document must conform to the following format: YOUR
\nNAME_KIN400_Paper 1.docx (example: Laura Rooney_KIN400_Paper 1). 2.5 points will
\nbe automatically deducted from your grade if this formatting is not followed.
\nx Your paper should be reviewed and edited prior to submission including proofreading and
