Choose an app to analyse that you have not used before. The app must be a different app to
\nthe one that you analysed in your tutorial presentation.
\nUse the walkthrough method, that we learnt about in week 3, to explore how this app
\npositions you as a user and write a report on your findings. What assumptions about you
\n(e.g. gender, ethnicity, ability, sexuality, class etc.)? How do you know?
\nMake sure that you justify any claim that you make by referring to specific aspects of the
\napp\u2019s design (e.g. word choices, images, colours, layout etc.) that you observe during your
\nwalkthrough.You should present your findings as a research report with the following structure:
\n1. Introduction:
\n\u2022 Briefly identify the main findings (from your walkthrough analysis) which
\nyou will explore in the report.
\n2. Report body
\n\u2022 Explain your findings.
\n\u2022 Be sure to justify each claim by referring to a dimension of the app\u2019s design
\n(use diagrams, annotated screen captures etc. to help the reader
\nunderstand your analysis).
\n\u2022 Do not simply narrate the flow of the app.
\n\u2022 Be sure that your paragraphs contain a topic sentence that indicates to the
\nreader the idea you are going to deal with in that paragraph. The rest of the
\nparagraph must apply sufficient analysis of specific examples to justify your
\nclaim.
\n3. Conclusion
\n\u2022 Summarise your findings in light of the analysis you have undertaken.
\nHow to include a screen capture or diagram in your report
\nIn order to explain your analysis you will need to include diagrams and\/or screen captures in
\nyour essay. You should present these as figures in your report with captions as follows:

\nDepending on your what you are explaining to the reader you may like to annotate the
\nscreen capture (e.g. with arrows and labels).
\nUse figures only when you are making a substantial point in your report. You should limit
\nfigures to 3-4 in the body of the report. If more are needed they should be included in an
\nappendix.
\nReferencing
\nSince you are reporting on your own findings the use of external academic sources is not a
\nrequirement of this report. The focus is on your own analysis of the app. If you do use
\nexternal material, for instance to refer to issues re gender, ethnicity etc., then you should
\ncite this material using Harvard referencing:
