\nWrite a short review on an academic journal (you can use footnotes in the review). You
\ncan search for the Journal articles in Communication and Mass Media Complete
\ndatabase accessible from the Ottenheimer library\u2019s website under \u201cArticles and
\nDatabases.\u201d
\nPick journals (with full-text accessibility) that seem to mirror your potential research
\ninterests. You must choose academic journals (hint: you will have to do proper citation,
\nor you will lose points).
\nPlease stick with journalism and mass media related journals and articles. Give specific
\nexamples when appropriate to illustrate your understanding. Do not excessively quote
\nfrom the journal\u2014write this in your own words as evidence of your understanding of the
\narticles and the journals.
\n1. Name the journal you looked at and the specific dates\/issues of that one journal
\nthat you examined.
\n2. Look at 4 to 6 issues of the journal from the past three years. I recommend doing
\nconsecutive issues; this will give you a good sense of how it appears over the
\ncourse of a year. How would you describe the scope and type of research (topics,
\ntheories, and methodology published in this journal? Is there a focus on U.S. or
\nnon-U.S. topics? How would you describe the reading\/knowledge level needed
\nfor someone to understand the article?
\n3. Find two (2) articles from the issues that interest you and are all related and can
\nform the basis for your research proposal. Summarize the two articles in about
\n300 words or less. For that, state, 1) overall topic, 2) what was examined in the
\nresearch article, and 3) a basic description of the type of methodology and
\ntheories used. Please submit the articles together with your review.
\n4. How could you use the research in the articles analyzed to inspire your own
\nresearch agenda? In other words, how are these articles useful to you as a
\nresearcher in terms of research methods and theory? Give at least one example for
\neach article and be specific. Please focus on how the article was written, or how
\nthe research was done. Avoid stating how you felt about the topic or its findings.
\n5. Submit your paper as a MS Word Document. Write a minimum of 1.5 double
\nspace pages.
