Last week\u2019s trip to the Mus\u00e9e des Ondes brought us back to the very beginnings of sound recording and producing. The museum is dedicated to Emile Berliner, inventor of the gramophone and the tour touched on the development of different audio artifacts throughout history. But as Rose Eveleth put it in her article for The Atlantic, \u201cWhat Did the Big Bang Sound Like?\u201d, sound has a history well before human beings began to record it. Before there was the gramophone and the phonograph, before there were human beings or even animals to make and hear noise, there was the first sound ever, the Big Bang. Although disappointingly enough, it\u2019s revealed that even if human beings were around, we couldn\u2019t have heard the big bang. Rose Eveleth goes on to write about other \u2018firsts\u2019 in the history of sound, from the first sound actually heard to the first sound ever recorded. This brings to the realization that the beginnings of sound recording, about two centuries ago, aren\u2019t that far in time from today. Especially in contrast to the amount of time it took to begin to record sound since the first ever sound, the Big Bang, happened. Granted the technologies invented in the 19th<\/sup> century have seen a great deal of improvements. As described in Richard Bryceson\u2019s \u201cThe History of Sound Reproduction\u201d as well as during the museum visit, after Emile Berliner sold the patent rights to the Gramophone company, the progress made in sound recording was fast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" .
