Week 5 – Final Project
\nFinal Project
\nFor your Final Project, you may write a paper or create a PowerPoint presentation.
\n\u2022 If you choose to write a paper, it must be four to five pages in length, plus a title page and
\nreference list, formatted according to APA style.
\n\u2022 If you choose to create a PowerPoint project, it must be 12 to 15 slides, plus a title slide
\nand a reference slide, formatted according to APA style. Be sure to save your presentation
\nas a PDF before submitting it to Waypoint.
\no Please note that whether you choose to write a paper or create a PowerPoint
\npresentation, you must properly cite your sources according to APA style.
\nTo complete this project
\n\u2022 Choose from one of the topics below and analyze its history from 1877 to the present.
\n\u2022 Select four specific events or developments that span the years covered by this course,
\nbased on their impact on the topic. Two of the events must be from before 1945 and two
\nevents must be from after 1945. You must assess how the events in relationship to the
\ntopic changed over time and explain how the changes occurred. Please refer back to your
\nWeek 3 Assignment, consider your instructor\u2019s comments and make any necessary
\nrevisions.
\n\u2022 Write an introduction with a thesis. Your thesis should summarize the main conclusions
\nthat you discovered while researching your topic and that you will support with a logical
\nargument based on evidence (sources). Please refer back to your Week 3 Assignment,
\nconsider your instructor\u2019s comments, and make any necessary revisions to your thesis
\nstatement.
\n\u2022 Connect each of the events or developments you have chosen back to your main thesis.
\nThe information presented must be organized and in chronological order.
\n\u2022 You must use at least four sources in your paper other than the textbook, with at least
\ntwo primary sources and at least two secondary sources . Please refer back to your
\nWeek 3 Assignment, consider your instructor\u2019s comments, and make any necessary
\nrevisions.
\nChoose one of the following topics:
\n\u2022 Native Americans\/American Indians
\n\u2022 African Americans
\n\u2022 Immigrants
\n\u2022 Women
\nFor example, a student writing a paper about the topic African Americans might choose the
\nHarlem Renaissance and the Black Power Movement as two of their events. In that case, the
\npaper would provide a description of the two movements. It would explain what each one
\nrevealed about the role of African Americans in broader American society in, respectively, the
\n1920s and the late 1960s, explain how and why the roles of African Americans in the 1920s
\ndiffered from their roles in the late 1960s, and explain how events in the 1920s may have
\ncontributed to developments in the later decade.

\n\u2022 Must include a separate title page with the following:
\no Title of project
\no Student\u2019s name
\no Course name and number
\no Instructor\u2019s name
\no Date submitted
\n\u2022 Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
\n\u2022 Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
\n\u2022 Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
\n\u2022 Must use at least four scholarly resources other than the textbook, including a minimum
\nof two primary sources. Your secondary sources must come from the Ashford University
\nLibrary. For help locating primary sources refer to the HIS206: Primary Sources Research
\nGuide
\n\u2022 Must document all sources, including images, in APA style as outlined in the Ashford
\nWriting Center.
