HRM 301 \u2013 Case Responses Part 1The following questions are intended to allow you to demonstrate both knowledge of course material and the ability to apply course learning to work situations. You gain points in your responses to the questions by concisely explaining theories you draw on, clearly connecting theories to situational data (the stories in The Cubs Way), and providing analysis that is insightful, detailed, and specific. Questions are centered on the behavior-performance model and related course material from our first weekend of the course.1.
\nChapter 2 of the book profiles Theo Epstein and his introduction to the Cubs. Using concepts related to individual differences at work, identify what you see as key individual differences that characterize Theo Epstein, and show how one or two of his characteristics are reflected in his approach to leading the Red Sox or the Cubs.2. Chapter 8 of the book examines the development of pitcher Jake Arrieta across his baseball career. Using a process theory of motivation, explain how the approach to Arrieta used by the Baltimore Orioles diminished his motivation, and how the approach to Arrieta used by the Chicago Cubs revived his motivation. What psychological approach to motivation is most aligned with the Cubs\u2019 approach to Arrieta, and what leads you to think the way you do?3. Chapter 9 of the book tells the story of the Cubs\u2019 efforts to recruit all-star pitcher Jon Lester. Using one or more content theories of motivation, identify the motivators the Cubs were appealing to in their recruitment tactics. Show how these motivations aligned or didn\u2019t align with Lester\u2019s actual motivations.
