MLC101 ASSESSMENT 1: Short Essay Information
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 The short essay is worth 20% of the final mark.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 There are two (2) elements to the Short Essay Assessment; see below.
SHORT ESSAY ELEMENT 1: PLAN
Word count: 150-200 Words (no leeway)
Submission:
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 The Plan MUST be completed no later than Week 4.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 You do not submit the Plan in Week 4.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 The Plan and Essay are to be submitted together as one document on
or before 11:59pm, Friday, 22 April 2016 (Week 6).
Points you MUST address:
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Issues\/Key Points that you will be discussing in the Essay itself.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Any areas that the you are finding challenging i.e. the
research\/referencing component.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Any deadlines that you have put in place for yourself i.e. you aim to have
the first draft of the essay will be finalised by week 6.

\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 The Plan is worth 3 marks.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 If a student requests an extension of time, they MUST submit their Plan
with the request. If no plan is provided, then the request will be
automatically refused.
ELEMENT 2: ESSAY
Word Count: 1300 words excluding citations, quotations, footnotes and
bibliography (10% leeway).

Research Guidelines:
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 You are expected to conduct your own research on the topic. There is no
limit as to the number of resources that can be used but all material must
be sufficiently and correctly referenced.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 The textbook is not to be used as a reference.
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 You must reference your essay in accordance with the Deakin Harvard
Referencing Guide \u00e2\u20ac\u201c In particular, please see the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcLegal sources\u00e2\u20ac\u2122

Assignments submitted in another format WILL NOT be marked and
allocated a mark of ZERO.

faxes, and hardcopy submissions will not be accepted.
