Argument-Driven EssayThe Assignment: For this assignment, you will center your essay on a specific question drawn from Wolff\u2019s This Boy\u2019s Life.You will select two essays from \u201cChapter 14: Happiness and Its Discontents\u201d and stage a critical debate between yourself and two authors by drawing on quotations from their essays and your knowledge of each author\u2019s critical lens. Your paper will be evaluated on the strength of your question, the degree to which you critically engage with and synthesize your selected essays, and the originality and complexity of your analysis.

Preparation: Make sure that you choose your essays carefully. In your essay, you must provide at least two quotations from each source. As part of your final grade, you must complete a typed TiC Prep for the two essays you discuss.<\/p>\n

Organization: Your essay must be clearly organized, but you must decide what kind of organization (ie rhetorical strategy!) works best for you. For this essay, I suggest first-person narrative framework. In any case, your specific question should be immediately obvious and you must introduce each essay clearly the first time that you reference that essay. Successful essays will end with a clearly written conclusion that summarizes the debate and highlights its complexity.<\/p>\n

Format: 5 pages.Please follow MLA formatting conventions (double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-pt. font, 1\u201d margins).<\/p>\n
