Working individually, you will:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Have chosen a clear and specific research question\/ aim\/ hypothesis for your research;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Have contextualised your research question\/ aim within the academic literature;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Understand the philosophical and methodological bases for your research;<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Have a sound method to address the research question\/ aim\/ hypothesis.<\/p>\n<p>2. Use Harvard style in-text citation and referencing.<\/p>\n<p>3. Do not copy any materials you use word for word unless you identify these sections clearly as<\/p>\n<p>quotations.<\/p>\n<p>4. If you paraphrase any materials, you must identify sources through in-text referencing.<\/p>\n<p>5. This is an individual assignment please do not work closely with anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>6. Write 3000 words (+ or \u2013 10%) excluding the header sheet, cover page, contents page, reference<\/p>\n<p>list, footnotes and appendices.<\/p>\n<p>Marks for criteria: Criteria<\/p>\n<p>10% Focus and Completion Does the proposal<\/p>\n<p>address the set tasks in a meaningful<\/p>\n<p>manner?<\/p>\n<p>20% Research Objective Does the proposal<\/p>\n<p>clearly articulate<\/p>\n<p>20% Synthesis and Soundness Does the<\/p>\n<p>proposal place the research objective in<\/p>\n<p>the context of the relevant academic<\/p>\n<p>literature and any relevant past studies?<\/p>\n<p>Does the discussion demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of that<\/p>\n<p>literature?<\/p>\n<p>30% Research Methods and Methodology Does<\/p>\n<p>the proposal sensibly outline methods for<\/p>\n<p>accessing sources of data that will address<\/p>\n<p>or answer the research objective? Is the<\/p>\n<p>method consistent with the methodology?<\/p>\n<p>10% Clarity of Approach Is the proposal well<\/p>\n<p>organised, logically constructed and<\/p>\n<p>attentive to the needs of the reader? Does<\/p>\n<p>the timeline include an Gantt chart or key<\/p>\n<p>milestones for research?<\/p>\n<p>10% Mechanical Soundness Is the portfolio<\/p>\n<p>clearly written, spell<\/p>\n<p>Structuring the research proposal<\/p>\n<p>1. Introduction (~200 words)<\/p>\n<p>Explain the issue you are examining and why it is significant.<\/p>\n<p>Describe the general area to be studied<\/p>\n<p>Explain why this area is important to the general area under study (e.g., psychology of<\/p>\n<p>language, second language acquisition, teaching methods)<\/p>\n<p>2. Background\/Review of the Literature (~1000 words)<\/p>\n<p>A description of what has already known about this area and short discussion of why the background<\/p>\n<p>studies are not sufficient.<\/p>\n<p>Summarise what is already known about the field. Include a summary of the basic<\/p>\n<p>background information on the topic gleaned from your literature review<\/p>\n<p>Discuss several critical studies that have already been done in this area (cite according to<\/p>\n<p>Harvard style).<\/p>\n<p>Point out why these background studies are insufficient. In other words, what question(s) do<\/p>\n<p>they leave unresolved that you would like to study?<\/p>\n<p>3. Research Objective (~500 words)<\/p>\n<p>A contextualisation and description of the questions you are examining and an exploration of the<\/p>\n<p>claims.<\/p>\n<p>Outline the methodological position you will take (ontology and epistemology)<\/p>\n<p>Outline the overarching research aim, objective or hypothesis that you will explore.<\/p>\n<p>List the specific question(s) that you are exploring.<\/p>\n<p>Explain how these research questions are related to the larger issues raised in the<\/p>\n<p>introduction. 4. Method and Design (~900 words)<\/p>\n<p>A description of how you would go about collecting data and test the questions your are exploring.<\/p>\n<p>(You are not required to come up with a new or original method!).<\/p>\n<p>Describe the general method you choose for your study, in order to explore your research<\/p>\n<p>objective or test your hypothesis(es).<\/p>\n<p>Explain why this method is the best for your purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Explain any potential difficulties in collecting data and how these will be overcome<\/p>\n<p>Explain the design features that ensure acceptability for ethical purposes<\/p>\n<p>Describe the participants (if any) and explain how you selected the sample<\/p>\n<p>Explain how you will present the collected data and how it will be able to be analysed the<\/p>\n<p>results to explore the research aim or to test the research hypothesis<\/p>\n<p>5. Significance and Conclusion (~400 words)<\/p>\n<p>Discuss, in general, how your proposed research would lead to a significant improvement over the<\/p>\n<p>original studies, and how it would benefit the field. (In other words, why should someone care?<\/p>\n<p>6.
