English Composition \u2013 Forum Poetry (Song analysis)<\/h2>\n

Pin ItAssignment (Part I): This class is all about learning to analyze, think critically and then write about literature. Poetry is a main component of literature and one that I often hear is difficult to analyze. I disagree and I want you to feel more comfortable analyzing poetry (it will also help to build your critical thinking and analytical skills).<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s what I want you to do:<\/p>\n

1. Read the lyrics to \u201cWatch the Sky\u201d by the band Something Corporate: http:\/\/www.azlyrics.com\/lyrics\/somethingcorporate\/watchthesky.html
2. Listen to the song: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Jm91QFBoDbA
3. Reread the lyrics.
4. Relisten to the song ??
5. Use the \u201cPoem Decoder\u201d provided in the slides to dissect\/decode the song.
6. Provide two paragraphs analyzing the song. The first paragraph should be about a general idea of what the song is about and clues to what led you to believe that. The second paragraph should be specifically about questions #9 and 10 in the decoder. The second part is a little harder, but that\u2019s how we dig a little deeper!<\/p>\n

Remember: This is a graded assignment. Here is what I\u2019m looking for in addition to the assignment above:
Minimum one to two paragraphs. Additional paragraphs are fine but will not gain extra credit. It\u2019s best to be thorough but succinct. Practicing this will help your writing skills.
Thoughtful answers to your original post and replies to peers. Steer away from truisms \u2014 meaning, something we all know is true and doesn\u2019t add to the conversation. Also, stay away from cliches \u2014 let\u2019s think up some fresh ideas! It will make class more interesting!
Timeliness \u2014 All posts are available on Monday and due by Sunday at 11:59PM. Late work will have points deducted. Discuss with me in advance if you have any issues that may lead you to posting late.

Correct use of grammar
Correct use of punctuation
Respect \u2014 this is an academic setting and we should respect everyone\u2019s opinions even when they differ from our own. Certainly, we can have vibrant discussions but they must always be rooted in respect, curiosity and intellect.
