RCT Design within the field of development economics<\/h2>\n

Description
Outline?a?design?for?an?RCT?that?has?the?potential?to?address?a?novel?question?within?the?field?of?development
economics.?The?RCT?Design?will?not?provide?an?actual?answer?to?a?research?question.?Therefore,?grade?will
depend?on?whether?the?design,?if?it?were?run,?would?provide?with?the?data?needed?to?provide?a?complete?answer
the?research?question.?In?particular,?the?design?should?be?able?to?identity?the?mechanism?behind?any?treatment
effect???that?is,?instead?of?simply?identifying?\u201dTreatment?X?had?a?positive?effect?on?education?outcomes\u201d?the
design?should?be?able?to?identify?that?\u201dTreatment?X?had?a?positive?effect?on?education?outcomes,?because?of?Y.\u201d
The?RCT?Design?should?include?the?following?elements:
??The?research?question,?including?a?structured?argument?for?why?this?question?is?an?unanswered,?but?salient
question?for?development?economics,?and?a?brief?overview?of?the?related?literature.
??Specific?hypotheses?that?will?be?tested?by?the?RCT,?including?a?hypothesis?regarding?mechanism.
??The?RCT?design,?which?will?include:
o?A?description?of?the?intervention?including?an?overview?of?the?specific?setting?\/?population?in?which?the
research?will?be?conducted?and?why?it?is?a?good?setting?in?which?to?test?the?hypothesis.
o?A?description?of?outcome?and?mechanism?measurement?and,?if
possible,?a?discussion?of?statistical?power?(which?may?be?done?using?EGAP?s?online?power?calculator)
o?A?discussion?of?how?common?problems?in?RCTs?(attrition,?non??compliance,?missing?data)?will?be?addressed?\/

??An?overview?of?how?the?data?will?be?analyzed??the?design?should?clearly?state?which?findings?would?confirm
or?reject?your?hypotheses.
